    What causes leaky bathtub spout?
I am a first time home owner and the spout in my guest bathroom is leaking. I all parts are new and it is a slight leak, but a leak non the less. I have taken the spout off, but I don't know what to look for and have not found anything on line that would fit my particular situation. Not sure why I would have a leak from a spout in a new construction home. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this leak?

    Hi Gallmkl

Where is it leaking from the spout... from the underside, or from behind the spout near the wall?

Is this a SLIP FIT tub spout where you simply push it on the copper pipe? If so, the leak is most likely due to a rolled edge at the end of the copper pipe. Here, the ORING of the tub spout can get caught on this burred end and either pull the ORING out of its recessed area or even tear it... definitely cause a leak. Here, the fix is to DEBUR the end of the pipe (use a metal file) and then add a little silicone GREASE to the pipe end and slip the tub spout on as usual. In this case, you may need a new tub spout as yours may or may not be damaged.

If you do NOT have a slip fit tub spout let me know how yours attaches to the pipe, OK?

    Back to you...
