well water pump

my well water pump is not working. I think it lost it's prime because I tapped the tank and it sounds hollow. How do I prime the pump?

If you've lost prime I would take a hard look at the check valve.
To prime the pump open up a plug oln top of the impeller housing and fill it up. Replace the plug and turn the pump back on and see if you don't start to build up pressure. Good luck, Tom

well motor problems

Tom is correct, that if you lost prime checking the checkvalve would be a good place to look, however, if the well motor itself isn't working , you may want to have a qualified technician..(Sears has a few..had a few)..check the contact points on the pressure switch..I am not sure if they carry them anymore on their trucks, but the pressure switch itself is rather inexpensive usually less than 30 bucks. If the switch checks out to be O.K., assuming that proper voltage is being applied to the switch, you should then look at the motor itself. If it is an above ground well motor, you're in luck, as it is relatively easily replaced, however if it is the submersible type, then that will be another whole ballgame as it isn't cheap to have to replace. The submersible type should last a good 15 to 20 years before giving trouble. I hope its simply a breaker that has tripped.
Good luck
