Water supply line--ice maker

The turn handle on our water supply line to ice maker is stuck--won't turn left or right. What do we do. We're afraid to force it.

Don't force it. Sounds like the shut off is bad. You will need to replace it, if you don't know how to do it, call your plumber. It's a pretty simple job and won't cost all that much.

What turn handle are you describing here? Is there some other issue going on that causes you to want to turn the handle? You don't need a plumber for this but please write back re: the handle.

I was assuming that you are talking about the shut off.

Is it the kind the clamps over another line? Even if it isn't, does it have a nut below the handle? If so, shut the water off. If you must shut it off at the maine valve, open a hot water faucet unless you know you have an expansion tank on the hot water heater. You can then remove the nut and the insides of the valve. Apply some penetrating oil or even cooking oil, and see if you can work the handle loose. If not, the clamp style are easy to replace. Check a hardware or home center for one like it. Just unscrew the screws holding it together plus the line to the refrigerator. Fasten the new one in place and turn on the water.
