Water Leak in Concrete Slab Floor
I live in San Jose, CA in a 10-year old home with concrete slab foundation.
I noticed wetness in the carpet in the guest closet. The closet is in the middle of the first floor and far away from any tap/faucet/bathroom. I removed the carpet and found that the floor is wet. After thoroughly mopping and cleaning the floor, I let it dry for two days. I notice that a small area (about 6" diameter) is always wet. The walls and ceiling are all dry. What could be the problem that is causing water leak in the floor? More importantly, what kind of financial damage it will cause to my family. I am already struggling with huge medical bills for my sick son and I am concerned about the cost of this repair:confused: Also, are these issues covered by warranty from the builder? The house was built in spring 1998. |

More than likely you have a water line that's leaking in the floor. You can call a leak detection service to find the leak location but at best it will be within 2 feet at the closet. Double check to make sure the leak is not from the outside rain getting in under the slab Since your budget is tight. Go rent a electric concrete chipping hammers ( not the big electric one yet) and Chip/break through that 6" wet spot to see if the broken pipe is there. From there you can chase it. Id you find it break up the concrete and exposed. Get a plumber to fix it or you do it. The big cost here is finding it and re pouring some bags of crete. To check to see if it's the house waterline and not the drainage line shut all fixtures off and go look at your well pressure gaga and see if it drops. If you have City water look at that gage. If it moves then it's a waterline if it does not it's a sewer line. Either or dig out crete at the wet spot and some where close to that is the problem If you want to do this on your own post back between all the Reg answering here form plumbing of the right way to repair the leak to the right way to re crete is all here so just post back and let us know what you need or if you have more questions No the builder that built a home 10 years ago will not have a 10 year warranty unless it was a written one in your hand.
