Removing and replacing the vent pipe

I have started remodeling my bathroom. When I tore a wall out and found the iron vent pipe. Now the pipe will be in the middle of my bathroom. I have been told that this pipe is very heavy and I should leave it alone. I am want to know what is the easiest way to take the pipe out and what type of pipe do I need to use to replace it?

I am not wanting to get rid of the pipe. I want to reroute the pipe so it is not in the middle of my bathroom.

You cut the cast iron with a set on ratchet cutters and convert to PVC with No-Hub Clamps,(see image). You may off set a vent to any position as long as you maintain slope. Good luck, Tom

tom, it is against code to use a standard no hub couple on dissimilar sized piping. the 4 band is ok, but the 2 band is not. ya gotta use a fernco
