i recently bought a bi-level home and the first floor is unfinished. however, the plumbing is ruffed in for a full bathroom.
i;m not sure how to vent the fixtures, or if i need to vent the fixtures.

there is a 2" PVC pipe running to the bathroom on the 2nd floor which vents out of the roof. i dont believe the vent is connected to the ruff plumbing on the first floor.

is there a simple way to vent the ruff plumbing on the first floor? and how do i determine what (toilet, sink, tub) needs to be vented?

i believe the ruff plumbing is drained under the slab in the garage.
the vent pipe that exits the roof appears to come up through the slab and drains the washing machine...it then continues up to the 2nd floor bath and exits the roof.

my main concern is moving forward with completing the 1st floor bath and it not being vented...is there anyway to test if its vented or not?

So you have a toilet drain, shower drain and a sink drain, right? If the plumber went through the trouble of installing drains and traps I think he got the vents too, inside the wall. I'd explore inside the wall cavity to be sure.

Hi All:

Bob's right (Ballenger)...If 1st floor rough plumbed then most likely has already been vented.

Here are a couple of pictures so you can see if your plumbing is designed similar.

1st pic. shows a basic bathroom with wet vent (toilet/tub/sink share one vent)

Hey Chris,
If your house was permitted and passed inspection you can be sure it's been properly vented. However, sometimes when a partial rough is done the vent isn't run up all the way through the roof. To check go up in the attic and look for a revent from the rough tied back to the main roof vent. good luck, Tom
