Last night I noticed a gurgling noise coming from my toilet as my clothes washer was draining. This gurgling progressed into a bubbling, and finally an overflow of the toilet, as well as a back up of about 2 inches of water into the tub.

Playing around a bit I have found that when the washer is not running the toilet works fine, but when I run the shower the toilet bubbles and both the tub and toilet back up a little bit before draining normally.

I started with some Draino, last night, with no improvement, and have a 50 ft pipe snake on hand, but have never used one before, and am uncertain how to proceed.

Is anyone able to determine what the cause may be, as well as a possible solution? We rent, so calling the landlord is always an option, but I would rather attempt a repair on my own first if possible.

Thank you.
