    Tub stopped up
I've got a problem with my tub being stopped up. We just recently moved into a new apartment that for some unknown does not have any type of cover or anything in the bath tub. Anyway yesterday my son took his bath and then the tub cover that I had been using slid over and allowed a wash cloth to go down the drain. It's beyond my reach. And I'm not really sure if I see it or not--- when I look down it looks like that could be the towel but then again I really don't know what the inside of the tub piping looks like. If I contact my landlord per the lease I'm going to have to pay for the plumber to come repair this problem as it is a "foreigh object", obviously I'm trying to avoid that cost. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

If you think you see the cloth, try a coathanger to grab it and pull it out, it can't hurt and maybe save some time and $$.

Your tub should have a strainer secured by a screw over the drain. This would have prevented the washcloth from going down it. You say you can see what looks like the wash cloth? Put a hook in a cloths hanger and see if you can fish it out of the drain before it gets down into the trap.
If it has gone down into the trap you will need a snall hand held snake.
Unscrew and remove the overflow plate,(The one with the drain lever) and pull out the tub stopper. You now have a clear shot at the trap. Now feed the cable( 1/4" best or 3/3" with a small tip. About 2' down you will run into the bend of the trap. The washcloth should be found in there. The augertipon the snake should auger in and you should be able to pull the washcloth back. Good luck and secure the strainer over the open drain. Tom

Okay so last night the water finally did run out all the way --- and I was better able to see down the drain. The washcloth was there --- and after about 30 minutes or so of fidigiting with the hanger, I was finally able to get it out.

Thank you all for the help.
    Have a great day

Gosh- I think I am having the same problem. The tub stopped up Monday and I had no idea why until later on when I realized I couldn't find the washcloth I used to bath my infant son Sunday evening. First I tried Drano thinking it was a clog. Then I stuck a coat hanger down first to see if I could snag anything when I realized it might be the washcloth, but no luck. (In desperation I also poured bleach down the drain trying to "dissolve" the fabric of the cloth, since it was awefully thin.)
In any case the washcloth may have gone farther down the pipe now as the bathroom sink next to the tub has started clogging now too. When the sink starts filling up water comes back up the drain in the tub too. (Water does pass down both eventually, just very slow.)
Any suggestions? Will a snake go this far down or should I bite the bullet and call the landlord?
    Thanks!
