My toilet sounds like a snake. Is that bad?

Hi All!

At the beginning of the week my toilet started doing something weird. After you flush it, (after the contents have been flushed out), it makes a kind of gurgly burp and not very much water (im thinking 4 inches of water) refills the bowl. Then it starts to hiss like crazy. Like a trapped snake or something. It's kind of annoying actually.

I'm not sure what is wrong with it... The only part of the toilet I know how to fix is the flapper (which looks fine, by the way).

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance
Dee

Tom,

I'm not sure if this is the right window for the answer.

The first picture is what is in the tank. There is no floaty thing.

Thank you!
Dee

You're doing just fine Dee, You have a FluidMaster ballcock.
Now open the tank lid and give it a flush. Is the refill tube secured to the overflow pipe or is it squirting around in the tank? Can you see any water squirting out anywhere. Let me know. tom

When the toilet is flushed water doesn't squirt out anywhere... It seems to dribble out under the float. And flow (very slowly) out the top part of the float, right under the little arm thingy.

Thank you again...

Dee

Hello DesignBee,

You didn't respond to Tom's question, look inside the tanks and check is the small fill tube secured to overflow tube if not you need to secure it, if it secured flush the toilet and let it fill and you watch it see is the water coming through the tube, if no water, I would suggest, close the angle valve flush the toilet remove the cap from the fill valve, remove the seal, hold your hand on top of the fill valve, open the angle valve and see how is the water flow, if it is good check the seal if it is OK try it and see what happens.

If no water close the angle valve disconnect the supply line from the tank make sure you have a bucket ready to catch the water open the angle valve if water is coming out, then your fill valve is failed if no water your angle valve is bad, see the Images below, good Luck.

John

John & Tom,

Thanks for all your help. I put in a new fluid master fill valve and the toilet is quiet as the proverbial mouse!

Thanks again!
Dee
