I just got done remodeling my bathroom, and retiled the floor. Unfortunately the floor is lower now and the toilet flange is about 1" above the floor. i understand you want the flange about 1/4" above the floor. What do I need to do to fix this? The pipe is cast iron and the flange is abs plastic. Should I cut a piece of plywood to fit under the watercloset to make up the difference?

That doesn't sound right. There should be a leaded Cast iron flange on the CI raiser. How's the ABS flange secured to the Cast Iron raiser? Let me know. Tom

There was a c.I. flange but it was broke so I went and bought a abs one that you tap in then secure to the subfloor with screws.

My question was.

how's the ABS flange secured to the Cast Iron raiser?

not how's it secured to the floor? Does it just fit around the cast iron raiser or what? If it simply sets on the pipe can you push it back to the floor level? Back to you, Tom

Sorry, it fits snuggly to the inside of the pipe then you tap it till the flange bottoms out. I may be using this incorrectly... not sure. Tapped all the way into the c.I. pipe it still is 3/4" to 1" too high.

then you can tap the flange back down to floor level but you still have the cast iron pipe sticking up? Yes?

Well it doesn't go down to floor level but sticks up an inch because the tile floor is lower since removing the tongue and groove underlayment.

I did I thought. It is tapped inside the c.I. pipe with a hammer and fits snug. I didn't use sealant. The c.I. would be the female and the abs flange the male.

Sure you didn'tget that backwards? The male end of the cast iron pipe will fit into t6he female opening of the flange.
Let me word it yet another way.
Then at this point the ABS flange is where it should be, snug against the floor with the cast iron pipe sticking up about a inch. Is this correct? Tom

I know I am having a hard time desribing this. I found this like below with a picture identical to mine the only difference is my flange is abs plastic not metal and instead of the flange fitting around the pipe mine sits inside the piping. My pipe and flange is sitting this high too. I measured and the height is 1" from top of flange to top of tile.

One more time: how is the Abs flange attached to the cast iron pipe? Is it a twist anm lock flange that fits inside the pipe? Can you remove it? I have to know exactly how the flange is secured to the pipe before we can go any farther. Tom
