    Toilet Clog Below Floor
Have toilet clog below the floor (I have taken toilet bowl & tank off & have standing yucky water). Have snaked from my utility room (on W end of house) straight through to tub (eastern most fixture) of the ONLY bath. Nothing came out. Toilet is not in line with tub & sink drains (sits about 2 feet south). I have a crawlspace - is there a plug under there? I have tried to run a snake down the yucky toilet hole, but I don't know which way to try to guide the snake when I hit the bottom of the pipe. AAARRRGGHHH!

You shouldn't have to "guide" the snake past the bend under the closet. It can only go one way. Just put the cable in and push. Good luck, Tom

Thanks, Tom. I got down abut 6 feet & got stuck. So I turned & turned the snake - pulled out a tiny piece of toilet paper. Is it worth renting an electric snake? Does Home Depot rent them?

OK - rented an electric snake - hubby & I ran it through the yucky standing glop - probably about 40 feet or so. Water suddenly receded - yay! Pulled out what looked to be small pieces of a sock. Ran water down the toilet hole - all seemed to be well. Will install new toilet tomorrow, as the box is missing pieces (toilet-to-go, my hiney). Ran a load of clothes - yikes! Water coming up through the toilet hole & spilling over bathroom floor. Also coming into tub. It has started to recede now. Should I just give up? Did I just shove the obstruction elsewhere? We are struggling so much lately with caring for both our mothers. If I have to pay a plumber (and believe me, I believe they earn every dime & then some), car or house note will have to go unpaid. Will any plumber be able to fix this or do I have to get one of the pressure trucks? Shall I just build an outhouse?

City sewer or septic tank? Locate the clean out and see if it's full of water. If it is run the electric snake down the cleanout until the water recedes. Good luck, Tom

It's city sewer. We called a pro - they ran the snake (120' worth - bigger reamer than on the end of the one we rented) down the vent of the toilet from the roof. Our house is only 960 sq ft, so the plumber feels sure he made it all the way to the street. It was only $156, which is much better that I thought it would be. They were great guys & even got here the same day I called (despite being short-handed - 2 other guys had to completely re-pipe a home & were on that 1 job all day). This house was built in 1959, and the same family lived in it from 62 - 98 (when we bought it). He did very little in maintenance, so I doubt if he ever had the pipes rootered. All in all, came out OK. Hubby & I even put the toilet back in ourselves. Thanks for your guidance.:)
