The smell of gas any time I flush my toilet
Recently I have noticed that any time I flush my toilet on the first floor of my home I get the smell of gas that I believe to be sewer gas. I do not get it in the main bathroom on the second floor of my 2 story colonial. Should I contact the city or are there steps I can take to fix the problem?

You may have a combination of two problems; a bad wax seal and a vent that is becoming blocked. I'd lay my money on the bad seal. Not expensive to replace but not much fun either. Do you need help with the replacement?

Thanks. Would that seal be on the floor because the smell comes from inside the bowl as the water goes down.

Yep, bad seal leaks at the base of the toilet. Does the toilet gulp and chug at lot as it flushes? Sounds like I'm moving my money to the plugged vent.
