Slow Shower on Hot Water Side Single Lever

We have a single lever (hot and cold) for our main hall bath....We had a company come out because cold water was fine but hot was only trickling out...They had to replace or reseat the cartridges inside... 85 dollars for about 5 minutes...It happened again and they cleaned it again saying we needed to replace our hot water tank we did as they suggested and bought a new hot water tank...Now the hot water is trickling out again and not even a year later and saying they need to replace the faucet. Can someone please help and let me know what I can do to fix the problem. MS. WannaBeHandy

They should be telling you the WHY part and not what to replace. The mixer was getting pieces of debris, likely a deteriorating dip tube, sticking in th hot inlet side of the valve. Cleaning it should be the fix and with travel, stop and labor $85 is about right. Ask them to now tell you WHY they think a entire faucet mixer must be replaced. If the inlet is agin clogged they can clean it, heck you can clean it. I am seriously wondering if you should be calling another plumber or the better buiness bureau

Originially they said it was the hot water tank 900.00 later for that we are now told the faucet (house is 34 yrs old and its probably the original) but I was assuming just something small inside would fix it...

This will keep happening unless you flush the new heater out on a regular monthly schedule. For long life and fewer troubles you should keep your heater clear of mineral build-up by FLUSHING NOT DRAINING on a regular schedule. Attach a hose to the boiler drain at the bottom of the tank. With the pressure on, open the boiler drain and let it run untill the water runs clear. You will see a spurt of red,(rust) followed by white or yellow grains,(lime or calcium carbonate). This shouldn't take more then a few minutes. Do this monthly to keep it clear. Now flush out your hot water lines on ALL fixtures that are affected . Now pull each aerator and clean the screens. Be sure you put them back together the same way you took them out. Don't forget to flush it out every month. Your heater will thank you for it. Hope this helps and thank you for rating my answer, Tom

HORSE HOCKY!! You still have trash in your faucet from the old heater. I'll bet they didn't flush the supply lines when they replaced the cartridge. Shut the water off to the valve and open it up. Check end clean the inlet ports on the cartridge. Now turn the water back on to flush out crud remaining in the lines. Reassemble and test. Better now? Good luck, Tom
