Morning everyone!

I have a home that was built in 1957 that my husband and I have been working on (we just finished the electric).

About 2 weeks ago, the shower in the master bathroom began singing when the hot water is on. (On a side note, the hot water knob is really loose all the sudden and I can't tighten it). We tried a new shower head, new washers and nothing is working. The singing goes on for almost 3 minutes each time the water is turned on. A couple days ago, the shower began banging, like someone knocking on the door (boom, boom boom), which lasts about 3-5 seconds. We've tried the trick of running all faucets at full blast to clear out air and draining out the sinks at the valves.

It's the only plumbing we have in the entire house that has a problem, and that includes the bathroom sink that is less then 3 feet from the hot water knob. It's the bathroom furthest away from the main shut off.

As me about drywall or tile and I can answer question after question ... but I'm at the end of my plumbing expertise. The bathroom is tile, so I want to exhaust every option before I start ripping the walls apart. Before I call in the professionals, can someone give me a suggestion?

When you had the valve apart did you turn the water back on to flush out the supplies and the open valve body? This knocking, does it start when you close or open the valve? You have a two handled valve, right? Any other hot water problems from other faucets? Back to you. Tom

We did run water with the valves apart to see if something was in the lines causing a blockage.

Yes, it's a two handled valve.

No other hot water problems at all, no other faucets that have any problems at all, just the master shower.

Noise in faucets is caused by vibration. Can you feel anything around the valve? This knocking, does it start when you close or open the valve? Regards, Tom
