Shut off valve to toilet

More details please. What was the supply line clogged with? Any other fixtures affected? When you cleaned the supply line did you run water out of the angle stop to flush out the branch line? Back to you, Tom

Thank you for replying. I work long hours that's why it takes me a bit to answer. The supply line was not clogged with anything I could see. No other fixtures are affected. I am sorry but I don't know what an "angle stop" is. Or a "branch line" either. Sorry. Just a single woman trying to figure it out. When I loosened up the supply line again it started to work but now the shut off valve is leaking. Is it possible for the valve to be bad and sticking shut? I have to go to work but I am going to buy a new one on my lunch hour and try to put it on tonight. I will let you know if that works. Thanks again.

Sorrty! My bad! The angle stop is the shut off valve located at the base of the toilet supply and the branch line is simply the copper pipe coming out of the wall the angle stop attaches to.

I'll put up a image of a angle stop. Tell me where it's leaking from and I'll tell you how to stop the leak. If we can stop the leak will that take care of your problem? Will you be getting water to the toilet tank? Back to you, b Tom

ok the line to the toilet was leaking because I didn't tighten it enough, (sheepish grin). When I disconnect the line to the toilet at the back of the toilet and IN FRONT of the shut off valve and let the water run into a pitcher this grit comes out. It is black and rocky looking. I am on a well and my pump is in the well. I haven't gone out to look but we have had a lot of rain and I am willing to bet that the well is overflowing right now. I get this stuff in all my lines and I don't have any thingies on the faucets or they get plugged too. My son was home in Jan. and installed a new line copper line to the toilet and a new shut off valve (1/4 turn) and new line to toilet. For some reason this new set up is getting blocked up. It works for a few times then I have to take it off, flush it and it works for a while.

This might be a good time to consider a whole house filter on the service line. And your thoughts? bTom

I like that idea however....how does one do this ? Is it hard to do? I think I need a plumber. aaaaaagh! My son will not be coming through again until August so I guess it is up to me or hire a plumber. Thank you so much for your help. Just having someone reply got the wheels turning and helped me discover the problem. You are the best!
