    Dirty hot water
Recently had a new bathroom fixture put into the bath/shower. Our water pressure in there has increased 10 fold. When I turn the hot on full blast, rusty/dirty water comes out. Small whitish/blue pieces of sediment (I think) are coming out. Is this bad?

    Hey Tony,
"When I turn the hot on full blast, rusty/dirty water comes out. Small whitish/blue pieces of sediment (I think) are coming out. Is this bad?"

It ain't good! This is what happens when you don't flush out your water heater on a regular maintenance schedule. Sounds like iron oxide and calcium carbonate coming out of your faucets. This is mineral built up in your heater. Let me show you how to flush your water heater.
For long life and fewer troubles you should keep your heater clear of mineral build-up by flushing on a regular schedule. Attach a hose to the boiler drain at the bottom of the tank. With the pressure on, open the boiler drain and let it run until the water runs clear. You will see a spurt of red,(rust) followed by blueish white or yellow grains,(lime or calcium carbonate). This shouldn't take more then a few minutes. Do this monthly to keep it clear. Now flush out your hot water lines on ALL fixtures that are affected . Now pull each aerator and clean the screens. Be sure you put them back togather the same way you took them out. Don't forget to flush it out every month. Your heater will thank you for it. Hope this helps, Tom

Dirty Water Softener [ 2 Answers ]

Whoever installed the water softener in my house (done with the previous owner) obviously wasn't the sharpest knife in the kitchen because they installed the sediment filter AFTER the water softener (I'm on a dug well with quite a bit of sediment coming through the pipes). Needless to say my water...
