    Can I get ss if I never worked
    Asking for a friend, however, he never worked, has no credits, he is 62, can he get any ss at all, tks

    No - he has no SS credits, since he never paid into the system. Therefore he is not eligibe for benefits on his own. But he may qualify for survivor's benefits if married to someone who has paid into the system.

    OK, tks, I have to ck with him to see if he has 40 credits from when he was younger, do the credits have to be recent? Tks, richard

    Credits don't expire. He can always find out whether he's eligible by calling the SS office, or by checking on line at ssa.gov - he can click on "Sign In" and set up an account to see the data they have on his earnings history and get an estimate of the monthly benefit amount he would be eligible for.
