    Toilet bowl smells of ammonia
WE live in an upstairs (2d floor) apartment. Both of the toilets has a bad ammonia smell that does not go away and we have pinpointed where the smell comes from, the toilet bowle itself. We have had the apartment maintenance crew come round twice, but all they have done is roto-rooter the toilet and claim the water is clean. We are at our wits end!! Can somebody please please help!!

Perhaps the odor's coming from inside the bowl and not the area your brushing. Try this. Tonight before bedtime shut the water off to the toilet and drain the tank, ( the tank doesn't smell does it?). Pour a gallon of full strength bleach in the tank Now flush and let it set overnight. The bleach will get to the hollow areas of the bowl like the rim, etc.
Next morning turn the water back on and flush the bleach away. Let me know it it helps. Good luck, Tom

If toilet is not sealed to floor, urine has most likely found its way under the toilet(men have really bad aim). You may have to pull the toilet, clean underside of toilet and floor and reinstall toilet with new wax ring. Then maybe silicone toilet to floor to keep this from happening again.
