Water coming out of the tub faucet & the shower head at the same time?
I just installed a one handle Kohler faucet for the bath tub, when water is turned on and the shower converter button is in the down position the water comes out of the tub faucet and the shower head at the same time. When the shower converter button is pulled up water will only come out of the shower head?:

This is caused by one of three things. 1) your water pressure's so high that it overcomes the resistance of the height of the shower raiser or 2) the shower raiser's so short that the small amount of back pressure produced by the spout pushes the water up the shower raiser or 3) you have something in the spout blocking the flow and producing back pressure.
You must understand this. The only thing keeping water from raising up to the shower head when filling the tub is that the height of the shower raiser will take more pressure to push water up it then it would take to push it out of the spout. Water like electricity will take the path of least resistance. All shower valves without a built in diverter are built and designed this way. Good luck, Tom

I had the same problem after installing a new Moen tub shower unit. I had used pex for the valve to tub faucet, but the unit requires 1/2 copper or galvanized for this section. All other piing can be in pex. Once I re-piped with copper, the problem went away. Seems that pex has a slightly smaller inner diameter with a slightly higher resistance.

I am also having the same problem with my newly installed shower and it is completely piped with pex. Is there any way to fix this problem without re-plumbing? Thanks!

What's your house PSI? If you don't know purchase a hose bib pressure gage, (see image) and connect it on a outside hose bib. Let me know, Tom

Unfortunately, the only way I know of to fix this, is to replace the valve to faucet section with copper, or galvanized.
