    Basement Bathroom
    I am in the process of finishing off a basement bathroom, I am going to tile the floor. There is a pipe approx. 6" high coming out of the floor for the toilet, when installing the floor how close to the floor should I have to cut the pipe off, how much room do I need to leave around that pipe, do I need to set any type of mounting brackets for the toilet?

    ... insert a closet flange in the pipe and glue it (pipe is ABS?) after cutting it off as close to the floor as possible. The flange is available with slots that allow you to bolt it to the floor. The bottom of the flange lip should contact the floor if possible, else you'll have to shim under it so it is stable.

    Hi Scott,
    There should have been a styrafoam closet wrapper installed around the closet stub up. This would allow you to place the closet flange next to the floor. The flange is your "mounting bracket". Just make sure that the slots are centered up on the pipes center. I agree with Flickits answer with the possible exception of shimming the bowl if you can't recess the fange so it's next to the floor. If there's no closet wrapper then go with a inside flange. As a rule the flange doesn't need to be tied down but if it does the holes are for securing it to the floor while the slots are there to slip the closet bolts into and to tie down the bowl. Don't forget to prime the stubup and flange before gluing. Good luck, Tom
