    Clogged toilet
Ok, we just bought a house, and the water was just turned back on to it. We used the downstairs toilet and from the first time that we flushed it, it was slow draining, but now it won't drain at all.
We did the plunger trick and at first it helped a little, the toilet would at least drain slowly, now when we flush the toilet over flows. We went and got a snake and tried to put it through the toilet and it wouldn't go far, so then we took the toilet off, and tried to stick the snake down the drain, and it doesn't go very far.
We opened the trap in the basement, nothing comes out.
Any ideas?? I am willing to try anything.

First cap off the open drain to prevent sewer gas from entering your house. Now let's find out exactly where the problem lies. We'll check the toilet first. Ordinarily I would use a closet auger but since you already have the toilet pulled take and block it up and dump a pail of water in the bowl. Did it flush on through or just fill up the bowl and stay there. Let me know and we'll go to step#2. regards, Tom
