I read that a dap out (14" x 14" opening) in the foundation slab
is used to access the tub trap. Is a dap out area also used
for the shower trap ? Thanks, Lee

The 14 X 14 inch enclosure is for a access panel in the wall behind the tub.
The average tub dap out is 12 X 12" square in the slab and the tub trap sets underground with a stub-up raising to connect the tub drain and overflow.

No there is not usually an area to access a shower drain unless you have a raised foundation and you can crawl under the house to get to it.

I installed a shower enclosure and base unit on a slab
about 3 years ago, and rememember having problems
with the 2" drain pipe being flush with the slab floor.
I don't exactly recall the particulars, but I had to chiesel
out some of the concrete around the drain pipe to get
the shower base set. Should there be a recessed area in
slab at the drain pipe or is the slab floor always flush with
the drain pipe ?

Lee, Darrel is bang on. I should have mentioned in my last post that we leave a dap out for tubs but for a shower we install a trap under the slab with a raiser coming out of the trap to about 3" above the slab. We never leave a shower raiser level with the cement. We leave enough raiser exposed so the we can pick up the shower drain. regards, Tom
