I have a leak in the connection going into the "back" of the shower. The plastic spacer deteriorated & broke apart. There is a gasket at the leaking connection, but it doesn't seem to do much to prevent the connection from leaking. If I try to stem the flow of water with plumbers epoxy putty, will it complicate replacement of the unit if it doesn't do the trick? If no, should I cut away as much of the gasket as I can before applying the putty or should I attempt to "reseat" the gasket with the putty?
