shower causes kitchen sink to fill with water

About a month ago the shower was running and the kitchen sink, which had no water running into it, filled completely with water. It drained and all has been well.

Last night the garbage disposal stopped working and again the sink filled while the shower was running. We have snaked out the entire pipe associated with the sink and shower and have found no main blockages.

We are trying to figure out if we need a new garbage disposal or if the problem exists in the line or pipes.

Any ideas? The main mystery is why the shower, upstairs, would cause the kitchen sink to fill with water.

Thanks!

I'll bet you missed renting a sewer machine and snaking out the kitchen roof vent. Put out enough cable to reach the base and 20 feet more. good luck, Tom

Thanks, we tried snaking out all there was possibly to snake and still nothing. The water from the top floor is not continuing down the pipes to the basement, but instead stops in the kitchen; the kitchen sink water obviously doesn't move down to the basement either.

That points to a blockage somewhere, but nothing has been unclogged as a result of snaking with a 50 foot snake.

We're trying a new disposal, to see if that works, but I have my doubts.
