    Sewer smell basement
    What is cause of a terrible rank sewer gas type smell in basement furnace is pushing throughout the house - either the drains or a dead animal in the furnace intake pipe?

    Check the water level in the floor drain trap. If the seal's lowered then sewer gas can escape. If the floor drain's not used then pour motor oil in the trap so the seal won't evaporate. Good luck, Tom
