Sewer gas smell coming from vents in home.
About a month ago a bad smell started coming from our venting inside our home. It smelled like a big toilet. We had someone come look inside our venting and nothing. We had someone come and check our furnace and nothing. And It doesn't smell everyday either.. right now it smells terrible but it is the first time in over a week. We had a fix it guy come and remove the spring vents in our attic, their were five of them, he tied them all into the septic vent through the roof. We thought that would fix the problem but the smell is back and it is worse! Please help! We are at our end. We have a propane furnace and we are on a septic system. There is also an apartment downstairs with a bathroom.

    Hi Rita,
"About a month ago a bad smell started coming from our venting inside our home."
Please explain,"venting" Is it a heating vent or a plumbing vent?
" We had a fix it guy come and remove the spring vents in our attic, "
Please explain, "spring vents" Do you mean AAV's (air admittance vents) as in sewer vents?
"We have a propane furnace and we are on a septic system"
Please explain the connection between the sewer system and your heating system? Is the smell coming from the furnace ducts? If so, have you checked the air adjustment on your burners? Propane gas is oderless so they
Added a nasty smell to it so if there was a leak you would be alerted.
If the burners were not adjusted properly then all the gas wouldn't burn and you would smell the oder from the gas.

I'm still not sure what your complaint is. Can you be more specific? Thanks, TOm

Musky Smell from vents and water [ 12 Answers ]

We have a musky smell coming up through the heating vents. Also I have noticed that our ice cubes have been coming out with an odor, similar to the kind of odor and taste they get after sitting unused for a while. But this smell is with them right from the first day. I don't know if there is a...

Musky odor coming from heat vents [ 1 Answers ]

We installed a humidifier to our furnace in February. Could it be causing the musky odor that we periodically get from the vents? What is funny about it is that the smell is not there 24/7 and when it is present it comes more from one or two vents only. If that makes any sense.
