sewage disposal

I am on a hunting lease with an outhouse. We want to put in some type of septic tank that will tank care of the waste and odor. We don't have running water, but we are going to add a shower (and water tank) so we will have the capability to add some water with this in order to get it to flush. I've done some research, but everything I've read is on "proper"
or to meet code. We are in the middle of no-where, so code it not really an issue. The ground is rocky with sand stone and has sand and some clay as the dirt. There are 24 guys on the lease, only 2 or 3 times a year do most of those show up on one weekend. The rest of the hunting season may only have 0 to 5, sometimes to 10 people. Our usage is only a few months the whole year. We can get a back-hoe and other equipment and we have some resourceful guys. Can anyone help us with "rigging" something up that would work in this application? Thanks.

You may be in the middle of nowhere, but once you start hauling in large equipment, be prepared for the local township to step in and shut you down. THEN, it will become a major issue to get permits, you will probably be slapped with fines. If it is a small township they will JUST LOVE how much money they can squeeze out of you. They will make your life a living hell.

My suggestion would be to check to see if there is a town clerks office/zoning board in the area this hunting camp is in before you start doing anything. Then, once you have established what rules, if there are any, exist you can research how to go about doing what you want to do.

Trust me, I live in the boonies and no matter how far away you think you are, some nosy neighbor will make a phone call because he/she has nothing better to do with their lives. You don't need that kind of hassle.

Sorry, but advising a person how to dump human waste in a pristine setting unsanitarially isn't something I signed up for.

Not to be smug, but we have wildlife in my neck of the woods that have tested positive for everything from Progesterone to Prozac.

I should have stated more clearly that you really do need to be in compliance. I am in agreement with what iamgrowler wrote above. I assumed once you received the information from the town as to how to go about building a septic system, you would do the right thing and build to spec.
