I'm thinking of replacing an old tub (american standard recessed tub) with a new claw foot tub. The only part I think I may have trouble with is connecting the drain. I don't think the drain line in the floor will be where it needs to be for the new tub. I am on a slab and wonder how they set up the drain lines....and how easy it would be to move it a few inches.

A Typical tub rough-in is 1 5/8" in from the floor plate behind the drain and 15 1/2" out from the wall. What's the rough-in specs on your claw foot tub?

We use several methods to join cast iron pipe. None of which include pipe threads, (unless we're converting to another type of pipe from cast iron.) The three most widely used are, lead and okum joints, Neoprene inserts,(rubbers) and No-Hub bands. Regards and thanks for your input on this site, it's appreciated! Tom

From what I can tell (from the above link) if the rough in is 1 5/8" in from the floor plate behind the drain and 15 1/2 out from the wall then I will be fine. Problem is when I try to measure including tile thickness (in the existing bath) I'm getting something like around 13 1/2 inches and not 15 /12. But without looking under the existing tub it is hard to say what I've got there.

What kind of connection exists under the tub where the overflow and tub drain come together and run into the the stub out?
