Replacing hoses under sink and installing shut-off valve

Hello,

I'm getting ready to "cut" the rubber hose under the bath room sink to install shut-off valves. Here's a little history for ya...I replaced the old facet about a month ago and had no leaks...well, guess what it's been leaking and wifes not happy.

I'm really worried about cutting the hose. I bought a Shut-Off valve, which has a 5/8" inlet and a 3/8" outlet. Here's where I'm nervous...I'm going to cut the rubber hose coming up through the floor and attach this shut-off valve to it.

Here are the “steps” that I’m going to attempt…First, take the silver collar/nut off of the 5/8" end...slide this down over the rubber hose from the floor...insert this little brass ring into the cut end of the hose...align the shut-off valve over the brass ring and slide the silver collar/nut up and tighten.
***Does this sound right and will it work on a "rubber hose"...or does this only work on copper pipes. I don't want this to leak...wife loves to give me TOO much grief when I do something wrong. Please help…and thanks for your time!

HOLD THE PHONE!! In the first place you shouldn't have "rubber supplies" did you mean plastic supplies? And what shut off valves did you purchase Did they look like this?, (see image). I need more information. Whaqt do the rubber hoses connect in to? How old is your house? Do all the supplies come up outta the floor and not the wall? What type of pipes do you have? Copper? Plastic or galvanized? Your configuration's unusual and I need to know more about it. Regards, Tom

These "rubber hoses" come up out of the floor on a Double-Wide Trailer...from 1996. I tried to send ya pictures but it won't let...I must be doing something wrong...I even reduce the sizes. It looks really close to your picture...BUT, IT RUNS STRAIGHT THROUGH...NO TURN...5/8 TO 3/8...THEN I'll connect the 12" flex hose to the sink...which, is 3/8 on one end and 1/2" on end that I connect to the facet handles (under sink).

The hoses look like hoses not plastic...close to what might be on the back of a washer but not as soft...more ridged. if you need more infor please let me know...if you want pics...tell me how to send them.
P.S. Thanks for your time...

Is the the piping gray in color?

If it is, then it is 'Quest' pipe and you will need to use "Quest" specific fittings.

Once again the growler nailed it. You're attempting to use the wrong fittings. Use Quest fittings to run your supplies. Good luck, Tom
