    Rainshower head height
I am installing a rainshower head in the ceiling our new shower.
What is the recommended height of the head above the shower base?
    Thank you

We usually put the shower arm at 78" but there is no code or regulation. I also use an articulated arm on most rain heads so folks can adjust all they want.

    Richard...

If you are installing a rainshower so it is centered in the ceiling then the height requirement will really depend on what you want... no set standard here.

The rain shower head will attach to a 1/2" I.P.S. (international pipe size) chrome nipple of any size you want in between 6-12" long.

You could install a couple different 1/2" black nipples (cheap to buy) and test run each...see what you like. Then replace with the correct chrome nipple after that. 1/2" chrome nipples longer than 6" can usually only be found at a plumbing supply store.

Otherwise, if I misunderstood and you have rain head coming out of the wall... the height will depend on what type of shower arm you purchase like Ballengerb1 mentioned... ;)

Good advice above. I only mention that you can also get chrome nipples as short as one inch, and you can also get nipples as long as you want them (within reason). As far as the height goes, I would suggest having it at a height were you can just reach the head for adjustment.

Rain shower heads are ceiling-mounted and are installed with 6" or 12" straight shower arm. It will attach to either 1/2" or 3/4" supply. Check with the manufacturer before installing head connection.

With 8' ceiling shower arms will bring the head to about 7' (6" arm) or 6 1/2' ( with 12" arm ) from the finished floor. Both heights will do the job. We prefer the 12" arm since it gives nice separation from the ceiling.

Maybe I am picturing something different or know it by a different name. I buy and install rain shower heads and attach to regular shower arms or articulated arms not the ceiling.

That's called "poor man's" rain shower head. Rain shower head installs on the ceiling. Water falls down like rain: from above on top of your head. If you would install it on the wall, water would not have enough pressure to spray on your body in a nice cone-like-shaped stream...
