    Propane/Gas Line pressure test
    Hello,

    Just found this forum, thanks all for creating! I have constructed an outdoor BBQ/Kitchen and I located a 100lb propane tank approx. 50 pipe feet from the point of use. I ran 1/2" black pipe with approx. 15 fittings. I pressure tested as per a plumbers advice with 15lbs of air for 15 minutes. It held the 15 lbs with no drop for about 4 hours. Some time later that evening I noticed that the pressure had dropped to zero. Seems like it should hold indefinitely but everything thing I've read and been told says 10 - 15 lbs for 15 minutes. What is the real story and what is safe? Thanks in advance for the input!

    Hi Craig,
    A pressure gage is great but it won't pinpoint the leak if you have one. We pressure up the gas line and paint every joint with dish detergent and then watch for bubbles. If the joints are tight there will be no bubbles. Good luck, Tom
