installing shower in unfinished basement

I'm beginning a project to add a basement bathroom in our house. The house is only two years old and the basement is unfinished with concrete slab. The builder roughed in a drain for the toilet, sink and also the shower. My question is about the shower drain. Currently it is a 2" pvc pipe coming out of the concrete with a cap on it. To install a shower or tub/shower would I need to bust up the concrete to add a p-trap or is there one below the concrete slab that is protecting the drains? I would like to just purchase a one piece shower unit and drop directly into the drain if possible.

Well Max,

I think you're gonna like my answer. Your shower is already trapped and vented. When we rough for a shower we install a trap under the cement and connect the shower into the lavatory drain line so it will be wet vented. You would have to bust up cement and create a tub dap out,(square hole in the cement) if you wished to install a bath tub but you say you wish to install a shower base so no sweat. You will have to vent the lavatory if it's not already done. Good luck. Tom
