    Pipes knocking
My home is three years old, large (4600 sq.ft.) and when water is run in the master bath shower or the commode is flushed, we get "hammering" or vibration in the pipes above the kitchen where the long span runs across. The hammering is almost a "clicking" sound and I've wondered if this could be:

    a) lack of proper installation of anti-vibration clamps
    b) trash in the faucet cartridges
    c) shut-off valve problem in attic with hot water heater
    d) air pockets in pipes

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks

Or none of the above. Water hammer can occur if the proper air cushion is no longer present in the pipes. Try this, shut off your main supply and open all faucets and allow to drain. Flush all toilets too. Close everything up and turn the main back on. 9/10 chjance your problem is gone.
