I am considering changing the location of my bathtub. I'd like to replace it with a whirlpool garden-style tub, and move it over to another wall. On the new wall the drain end of the tub would butt against the existing freestanding shower.

This would require breaking through the slab to install the new plumbing for the tub, and somehow capping off the existing tub drain, which would be in the middle of the floor after the move. (if this makes no sense I can attach a sketch). I am planning to replace the bathroom floor anyway; it's currently carpet and I'd like to replace it with tile.

Is this even feasible from an engineering standpoint? Will the cost be totally insane? I'm not planning on doing any of the plumbing or installation work myself, just the tile floor.

Hi Jenn,

First off, get three estimates from three different contractors. You ask, " Is this even feasible from an engineering standpoint?" Anything's feasble.
Then, "Will the cost be totally insane?" That's why the three estimates.
If the plumber can tie back to the lavatory drain then the whirlpool can be wet vented. If not a separate vent will have to be run for the new tub.
