I have a shower/tub drain that has a very moldy smell coming from it. I have cleaned it with drain cleaners but the only time the smell seems to go away is when I close the tub drain. What could this be and how can I fix it?

Hello ndjames~
Have you used CLR or straight bleach yet? I usually fill my bathtub up about 1/3 of the way pour a half a bottle of CLR or bleach in swirl it around and then open the drain. That always seems to work for me. If all that stuff doesn't work then I would go to Lowes and find the tool that plumbers use to unclog drains(looks like a really big spring with 5 prongs on the end that open and close). It's possible that you have hair stuck in there that is rotting. Hope that helps!!!
Try mixing 1/2 cup of table salt with 1/2 cup of baking soda, dump in the drain and then add a cup of vinegar. Allow to sit over night and flush with a bucket of very hot water. The smell is likely roting hair, skin cells and body oils.
