Moen Shower cartridge replaced, now only cold water flows
    Hi Guys,

I removed and replaced a shower single knob cartridge. I believe it was the 1225 but packet was a return at Home depot so wondering if I have the right cartridge.

(Yes I chucked out the original cartridge so can't compare with new one now)

The valve originally was leaking, so just removed and replaced with what I believe was the correct cartridge. Now when I turn to the left (counter clockwise) the water flow is reduced to a trickle.

If I turn to the right, i.e. cold it functions fine.

a, Could there be something wrong with the pressure valve?
b, Is it possible I have the wrong cartridge?

    Any advice appreciated.

I did note that there was also an all brass replacement cartridge, is this functionally equivalent?
The one I have now installed looked similar to the original, it is plastic outer shell with black rubber pieces at the bottom, and just 2 open holes in the plastic shaft towards the top (front)

    Thanks:)

Installation Help / Animated Tutorial - Installing the Moen 1225 / 1200 Cartridge
    Hi John,

Thanks for your answer. I had tried that, in fact I left the control off so that I can completely rotate the knob, but same problem.

Is it possible that the pressure stabilizer is causing the problem?

    Thanks

It is possibale you have wrong cartridge installed.

Do this remove the cartridge completely out and rotate it 180º then install it back, before you install the cartridge turn on the water for a second to flush out any dirt remaining inside the faucet, check if it will help you, if not replace the cartridge make sure to have the correct one,Thanks.

    Ray,
When you had your valve apart did you turn the water back on to flush out any crud you might have dislodged? It sounds like the inlet ports are clogged. Pull the cartridge and check the inlet ports. Now turn the water back on and flush the . Rotating the cartridge barrel won't change a thing. Rotating the cartridge stem 180 degrees will reverse the hot and cold. Don't forget to flush the valve out before installation.
    Good luck, Tom

I am wondering if this is an OEM cartridge from Moen. You can call them and they will give you a free OEM cartridge, I always wonder why folks buy replacements when they come with lifetime free replacement. http://csi.moen.com/warranty.cfm?brand=moen
