Hola! Ok- I have been searching and searching the Q&A here about toilets, but I cant find what i am looking for. I know i have some clogging going on. What is goin on here is one toilet's tank will not fill up with water and I have to pour a bucket of water into the bowl in order for it to flush The other toilet's tank continues to fill up and overflows! I do not have that hole that one person is speaking of(that you can stick your finger down and clean). I just have the plunger type stopper to cover the drain hole, and the floater type mechanism. The toilet that requires a bucket to flush worked fine one day then POOF it does this to me. Then every once in awhile it will flush like it supposed to. Oh I am at my wits end here! Thank u in advance for your help!

first tell us what type of ballcocks you have, Top or bottom, (see images).
If yoiu don't find a jet hole in the bowl then you have a gravity or wash down bowl. Let me know what you have in the tank and we'll tackle those problems one at a time. regards, Tom

Let's address this first. You have a Fluidmaster ballcock that the hole in the washer has swelled up. Shut the water off at the angle stop,(that small fill valve located under the tank) and twist the top of the ballcock counter clockwise. the top shoud come off leaving you with a round washer,(see image) with a small hole in it.( Fluidmaster part#242) Remove the washer, it is neoprene and the hole has shrunk cutting back on the flow. Replace the washer purchased at any hardware store. Now place a can over the top of the ballcock so water does'nt spray all over and open up the angle stop. You are flushing out the stop and the ballcock supply. Now put every thing back togather and let's adjust the tank parts. Check the tank water level, it should be at the mark in the tank or 3/8 to 1/2" below the top of the over flow tube. Now look at the flapper, If it has wavey edges on the flat surface, replace it. The linkage between the flapper and the flush lever should have 1/4" play when the tank is filled. Also, check the small tube coming out of the top of the bakkcock and make sure it's connect to and draining into the white overflow tube and not just janmned way down into it. This should fix the first toilet. Now on to thr second one. The tank level can be set by pinching the steel clip on the vertical wire arm at the side, pulling the can up and down down. pull the can up to raise the tank level and down to lower it. Make your tank level 1/2" under the top of the white overflow tube. Good luck, Tom

here is what I have done so far-I have taken the cap off-I had to pop it off because it doesnt twist off. Under that is a white plastic part that holds the arm. Now when I try to twist that whole piece off, the arm comes with it and it's going to break! If that is the part you are talking about me taking off how do I do that? Forwarning, I may be a little slow, but I know I can do this..I will accomplish this task! So please remain patient..as I do appreciate this site very much.

You now have the top off. Look directly down and you will see a black neoprene washer. This is what you have to pry out and replace. Do not take the top assembly completely off. just replace the washer and reassemble. good luck, Tom

the black part snaps on and off, but the whole cap will twist off if you hold the lever up and hold the stalk of the device steady with the other hand.
