I have recently installed a new toilet upstairs, and the water level in the basin is constantly too low. When the toilet is flushed, the water disappears very quickly, and then goes back slowly to its original level. The other toilet I've installed in the room next door works fine. Both soil pipes are running at a 90 degree angle under the floor boards before going out through the back wall and down into the drain. There is no stench pipe for these toilets, but would that cause the water level to be so low?

Hi Greg,

There are a few things that would cause low water level in the bowl.
The level in the tank should be 1/2" below the top of the white overflow tube. Now look at the very top of the ballcock and you will see a small 1/8th" tube running over to the top and connecting to the overflow tube.
This tube runs water directly to the bowl while the tank's filling. Make sure it's connected and filling. There could also be a factory defect in the bowl. Sometimes in casting the bowl there is a small bubble in the china. Instead of junking the bowl the manufacture will put a porcelain patch over the hole and send it on through. On occasion the patch will fail allowing the water to seep out of the bowl. If that's the case you would have a full bowl after you flushed and the bowl filled but some hours later you would notice a drop in the bowl level. Good luck Tom
