Shower remodel

We recently moved into a 30+ year old house that has a 3x3.5x5' tiled shower enclosure. I believe that the pan is a mud floor, but it is covered in 1" ceramic tiles, and appears rather amateurish. The problem is that we have found leakage through the shower wall, and damage to the greenboard backing on the side opposite the head. Our plan was to remove the old tile, greenboard, etc. from all four walls (tiled ceiling) and replace with cement backerboard and new ceramic tiling (we have some sort of seafoam green 70's era tiles that look hideous.)

In the process, would it be a reasonable addition to the project to remove the floor tiles and replace with some variety of prefab shower base? If so, what all would that require in this case?

Thanks,
Kevin

edit: I suppose a better question to ask would be whether or not it would even be necessary to redo the shower pan if we were to remove the wall tiles and drywall/backerboard.

I've heard good stuff about these: Schluter-KERDI-SHOWER-KIT - Schluter-Systems

If I were in your shoes, I'd be seriously considering this as an option.
