Hi All

I would like to install a temporary basement bathroom, Commode and sink,
I want to build it with plumbing above the concrete floor, I live in a ranch style house, What I have is 1st floor bathroom and i want to install the one in the basement right below it, attaching into the present (4" Cast Iron Pipe)
this pipe reaches about four feet above the concrete then connected into a 3" brass pipe, then divided going up through the 1st floor, connecting to the shower, sink and commode, I believe the best way Is to remove the (4" cast Iron pipe) and replace with 4" PVC pipe and then make connections off this for the commode and sink, reason being PVC pipe would be easier to cut and splice with a T joint, what I would do is save the (4" cast Iron pipe) to put back when I decide to sell and move.

So what Im asking is what kind of plumbing parts list would i need to make this happen? or any websites discribing such plans.

Hi Doug,

If you have the headroom in the basement I see no problem in "platforming" your bathroom group. You will need to cut the Cast Iron off next to the floor line and using a 4" No-Hub Band connect a 4 X3 X3" PVC Sanitary StreetTee, (or a 4 X 3 San Tee with a 4 X 2" reducer on top) to pick up the toilet with 3" PVC. From the top of the tee you'll connect back to the 3" brass stack with a another No-Hub Band..
Along the way to the toilet you'll branch off the 3" PVC with a 3 X 2" Wye or other fitting to pick up your sink with a 2 X 1 1/2" Sanitary tee with a 1 1/2" stubout for the sink trap. From the top of the tee you have to run a vent to rhe roof that will vent your group. You do have the option of using a "cheater vent" instead of venting through the roof. More questions? Im taking notes, Ok and yes I do have headroom in the basement for a platform, not sure how to put the Ventilation in though, long ways to the roof! Thanks again; Doug

A cheater vent is a mechanical spring loaded vent. to check them out click on.
