Within the past month, we have had to turn the shower/bath water dials almost all the way to hot (in both bathrooms) to get any hot water. Last week when we cleaned out hot water tank. We conneted a hose to the valve and flushed the tank for several minutes. It did not appear to have been clogged. ( The water did not run out until the water valve was shut off.) Water at the sinks does not have this problem.

When you flush a hot water heater you leave the cold water supply on. To turn it off it just drains the tank not flushes it. Open up the tub/shower valve and clean and clear the hotwater inlet ports on the cartridges. Before you reassemble turn the hot water on to flush out the supply. Regards, n Tom

Should water flow freely out of the tank with the water supply turned off? After connecting the hose to the tank (located in the attic), very little water flowed out of the hose.

I also need to clearly define the problem. There is hot water coming in from both showers, but to get hot water, the dials(only one in each shower) need to be turned almost all the way to hot.

With the supply turned off you have to open up the nearest hotwater faucet or lift the lever on the T & P valve to break the vacume lock. If you don't vent the tank it won't drain.

No, there are no guards on the faucets.

It seems that over the past three weeks, we have had to turn the dials in both showers/baths more and more toward "hot" to take a warm/hot shower or bath.
