| | | Loss of pressure for kitchen sink sprayer My kitchen sink spray was working alright, plenty of pressure until I had a new faucet installed.
The faucet has pressure (as before the change) but when I use the sprayer it goes down to almost a trickle. Before the change the faucet and sprayer had good pressure, now, only the sprayer has lost pressure?
Can someone tell me where to look? What should I check? Is it possible that the hose under the sink is too long? I don't want this plumber (and I use that term loosely) back and I would like to see if I can find and fix it myself. By the way, I only replaced the old one because it was old and dated, it still worked fine.
Lost in the desert . . . ? | | | | | | |

Pay to call speedball1 for advice ($.95/min) | Re: Loss of pressure for kitchen sink sprayer Ya got me confused, Are you sayingng you replaced the deck faucet and kept the old sprayer? Or, (as I suppect) does the new faucet work fine but the sprayer that came with it does not. If iit's the latter then you have a clog in the spray head or a faulty diverter. I would take the spray head off and open the faucet. You should get a full stream through the open hose and the spout should shut off. If that doesn't happen, then you have a faulty diverter and to give you instructions on how to change it, I will need the brand of faucet and the model# would be nice. Hope this helps you out. Tom |

| Re: Loss of pressure for kitchen sink sprayer Yes, I've had the whole unit replaced. Everything is new.
I have tried to get the spray head off, but can't figure it out, must be a way, but I can't find the instructions that came with the unit (think the "plumber" might have taken or thrown them out with his trash) so, . . .
The Brand and Model number is:
Price Pfister
26-4N22
Thanks for your help!!! |

Turn it out counterclockwise. Follow directions in my first post to determine if the diverter's working. If the spout shuts down and you have full flow from the open hose then check the sprayer for a clog. That's where you will find your problem. Cheers, Tom |

| Re: Loss of pressure for kitchen sink sprayer Where is the diverter valve located on the kitchen faucet sprayer? I lose water pressure on the hot water side. It starts out at full pressure then drops off. I believe it is related to the sprayer. I have no idea where to look for the model number or manufacturer since this is the original faucet and it is 15 years old. Any guidance would be much appreciated. |

take the spray head off and open the faucet. You should get a full stream through the open hose and the spout should shut off. If that doesn't happen, then you have a faulty diverter. The diverter on all kitchen faucets is located at the base of the valve body. To access it you need to remove the spout assembly.
The diverter shuts off the flow of BOTH hot and cold water to the spout. The spray is pressured all the time the valve is opened. When you open the spray, that's when the diverted shuts off the flow to the spout. I still say that a small piece of solder or a chunk of trash has got in your hot water supply line. Every time you call for hot water it will flow untill the obstruction works its way up the supply line into the in let port of the cartridge or in the case of a two handle, the seat. Turn off the water, open up the valve body, place a pan over it to prevent splash and flush out the supply lines. Cheers, Tom |

| I have a MOEN faucet/sprayer in the kitchen with similar problems (about 5 years old). Sometimes when I turn on the faucet, I hear - what sounds like air bubbles/pressure equalizing. The sprayer will (sometimes) even shoot out a squirt. Biggest problem is that with the faucet off, water will slowly drip from the sprayer nozzles - enough to form a nice puddle by morning.
I tried removing the spayer trigger at the base to watch the flow of water. Most of the time, a get a free stream of water through the sprayer line and a complete shut off from the faucet - sometimes a small stream from the faucet. But when I shut off the water - I can begin to see water filling the base of the sprayer. If I raise the sprayer base above the faucet, I'll usually get a few drops from the faucet....
First post - but not my last... thanks in advance. |

First post - but not my last... thanks in advance. | I have a Moen also. The "chatter" is caused by a lack of pressure or a faulty diverter. The diverter's located at the base of the valve and can be inspected or replaced by removing the spout. If the cartridge is letting water seep in then I would rep[lace both the cartridge and the diverter. By doing that you will have rebuilt the valve. Don't forget to turn on the water for a few seconds and flush out the supply lines when you have the valve open. good luck, Tom |

| I need some help with the terms: "base of the valve" and "spout". Do I need to replace the sprayer or do you mean fix a diverter under the faucet where the hot/cold and sprayer lines come in? I attached a photo to my earlier post... thanks... |

Originally Posted by speedball1 Good morning Michele, Sounds like the diverter has a bit of trash caught under the seat not allowing it to close completely. The diverter is a small flap that snaps shut and closes off the flow to the spout when you trigger the spray. When the water rushes by it sets up a vibration, hence your pulsating spray. The diverter lies under the spout in the valve body. You will have to turn off the water and remove the handle and retaining nut. The spout should pull straight up and the diverter is at the base of the valve body. Remove it and clean the seat. To tell you more I would need the name of the faucet and how old it is. Good luck. Tom | I found your quote from a couple years ago. Are the 'diverter', 'spout', 'valve body' in the sprayer or the faucet attachment?? I assume the diverter is under the faucet. We were thinking of replacing the faucet/sprayer anyway... Newbie questions... |
