Hopefully someone can help me here. I am in a newer home (3 years old), and have just found out that the upstairs bathtub drain pipe leaks. It is the 4" PVC pipe that I noticed water leaking out of after draining the bath water of our newborn (and happened to go into the basement (unfinished thankfully!). It is a very small trickle, but obviously something that has to be dealt with. I am wondering if there is a way to find the leak without making a bunch of cuts in the bulkheads and walls (which is probably the only way to find it).
A little insight would be great!!

It is up stairs but you still are getting the water in the basement? This is a 2 story right? Do you have any access to the supply or drain to the tub. Check in the adjacent closet or room for a possible trap door.

Yes - the tub is upstairs (a two storey), but it is pretty much a straight run to the basement from the bathroom (following the pipes i mean). There is a kitchen and dining room in the area under the bathroom, and is no water damage on the ceiling (just did some lighting work, found nothing), and the wall/bulkhead it is contained in has enough space in it, and at the floor end of it (open to the basement) - that the water isn't even touching walls or floors. If there is a leak, I am glad it is here, just not too happy there is a leak at all !!

OK good but how about the trap door? Many tubs do have access panels, hopefully you have one.
