Leak from the cold faucet behind the shower wall
The leak on the left pipe. It seems repaired by someone else in past. I don't know if it is fixed properly. How much do you think a plumber will charge me for the repair?Name: photo1.jpg

Hard to tell, depends on local labor rate. Looks pretty sloppy but it might be a cracked valve body and the whole assembly may have to be replaced.

Are you in rural Arkansas or In the Hamptons?

Labor rates vary significantly by location.

And any estimate we might give....won't be followed by any plumber local to you.

Go to Home Depot and price the complete assembly.

    Hi YTK

Did this valve freeze at any time that you know of? It certainly looks like the COLD water pipe froze and "popped" the solder joint to me. Let me know, OK?

Yeah you are likely right because the home was vacant last winter. Also, the diverter was sort of jammed.

If that is the case, and the valve works other then a small leaker you can probably get someone in to resolder/reset the cold water tubing joint and that should fix this up pretty easily for you...;)

Since I see water stains on the wall board, and I don't see any water droplets on the pipe, I question exactly where this leak is and when does it occur?

Is the leak where the pipe joins the valve or does it occur around the valve stem. Does it occur all the time of just when the cold water valve is opened?

The stem in the cold valve was replace but the leak appeared worse. The leaks came out between the valve and pipe. The seller ordered a plumber to stop the leak last winter and they didn't specific the leak and told me it was fixed. I found out leaking from the 2nd floor last week. That is very possible that resolder would fix it, but I ordered the plumber to replace the assembly completely and the problem has solved and that is less headache for me.
