Laundry tub gray water

I need to know in Michigan can I drain my laundry tub onto my grass near my lake or does it need to go into the septic tank? I heard it shouldn't go into septic tanks? how should it travel?

Thanks WCBN111

I get different opinions on Michigan codes concerning gray water. Your best bet would be to check with your local Building Department. Some codes say it's OK to water your lawn and plants while others mandate a dry well. If you plan on routing the gray water to the septic tank you will have to install a grease trap to trap the lint and grease before it plugs up the filter bed.
Good luck, tom
