Hi All,

I'm finishing a basement bath and have installed the floor (ceramic tile). I have a schedule 30 3" water closet waste pipe rough in. I cut the pipe flush with the tile floor and removed the plastic wrap (so I can install a flange on the outside of the pipe). I went to Lowes and found the only schedule 30 closet flange with the test cap.

Upon looking at the flange, it looks like it will not sit flush with the floor when installed with the pipe cut even with the tile - looks like 1/4" +/- above the finished floor.

Should I find another flange? Should I try to trim the pipe shorter (not my preferred idea)?

Any help from the professionals will be VERY welcome!

Hi Mark:

Super easy to just cut that pipe down if you purchase an inside cutter... see pic.

Here, inside cutter installs into the drill and then as you see, cuts nice and easy.

A helpful hint here would be to put a rag in the pipe a few inches below the cut in case the bit falls in while working on pipe. Another helpful hint may be to draw the line you want to cut on the inside of the pipe with permanent marker AND then make your cut.

You may also be able to use an angle grinder or a rotozip angle tool OR SIMILAR and a DIAMOND or metal cutting blade to make the cut you need too... again, just draw the line out on inside of pipe before beginning!

You can always install an inside TWIST AND SET closet flange (see pic.) but not necessary if can make the cut as easy as I just stated. But if don't have the tools.. this is fine, too!
