Install Gas Shutoff Valve for stove.
    [F]

I have a 1/2 " gas line coming into my kitchen of my new house. I bought a 1/2" shutoff valve, 3 " Nipple, and 1/2" cap. In order to connect to a flex line I assume the nipple needs to come out of the shutoff valve (F/F Threads). Give me some guidance as how to install the line. I also bought some pipe thread compound. Please put in order the steps and tools required.

    Thanks

You will need 1/2" 90 ell, short nipple, and valve. You will use Pipe Dope on all IP threads, NOT on flex connections. Those are Metal on Metal. But you HAVE TO USE the dedicated ends for the flex. Do not attempt to screw flex directly on Iron Pipe tread.

    Proceed as follows:

    1. Remove cap from nipple on the wall.
    2. Install 90 ell pointing side ways. Install short nipple.
    3. Install 1/2" valve.
    4. Install short nipple
4.Install 1/2" Female x 1/2" flare to the other side of the valve with nipple ( this fitting is part of flex line )
    5. Install 1/2" Male onto the stove ( this fitting come in the package with flex line )
    6. Install gas flex.

Now, you could have bought gas cock that has 1/2" Female Thread on one end and 1/2" flare connection on the other end. That would make the job cleaner. But you can do it with the materials you already purchased so don't worry about it. Also, I am suggesting that you install 90 ell because you don't want plumbing to stick out too far away from the wall. Then, you wouldn't be able to put your stove close to the wall leaving big gap.

Edit: Sure, turn off gas to your house before you do anything ! Thank Corrillo ! :-D

First you must go to gas meter and turn off gas then with pipe wrenches you take off old gas valve and put pipe dope on threads screw on gas valve and tighten well. Make sure gas valve is off. Then get out gas flex make sure you have the flared ends that are in the ends of the gas valve if you don't go buy a new gas flex with the proper ends. Lets say you have them take ends out of flex and screw them to the nipple coming out of gas valve and out of nipple in back of stove and tighten well. Once that is complete then connect gas flex to flared end tighten well and turn on gas . Do night light stove until you check for leaks get a spray bottle put water and dishh soap in it spray all connections if you see bubbles you need to tighten better if no bubbles then you are on your way
