How much to repair a water line

The water line from my meter to my house had a crack in it. The plumber quoted me $750. As I was in somewhat of a bind (the water company threatened to turn off my service), I agreed. The plumber located the leak with some digging, and it turned out it was a crack in an old PVC pipe an inch or so from the connection to an even much older galvanized pipe. All told, he was here about 2 hours. I am happy with the work, but I am wondering if I was ripped off? Again, great job, but feel like perhaps I overpaid.

I do not know what area you are in so its difficult to tell you if you over paid . It would also depend for me if I were doing it how much digging was involved , soil type, and my expected time. Also it can be difficult to bid on jobs you cant see. For example if someone calls me up and says I have a water leak somewhere in an underground line I would have to estimate all of the above factors plus maybe a few more that are site specific .All in all you probably got a fair price.
