plumbing-cast iron to pvc

I Have A Tub Drain I Am Replacing Under The Tub Which Is A 3in Wide Inside Hub Measurement, Maybe A 2 In Cast Iron That I Need To Connect 1-1/2 Pvc To.
I Have A Pvc Fitting That Fits In The Hub Leaving 1/2 In Space To Put In A Packing, Plumbers Putty Or Oatey Epoxy Putty. This Cast Hub Is Upright, Not Horizontal.
What Is The Best Way To Seal This Fitting? The Rubber Boot Will Not Work As I Have To Have A 45 Ell To Connect To The Off Set Tub Drain.
