Hot water pressure reduces to a trickle
When I turn on the hot water in my shower, the pressure drops and trickles out of the shower head. It only seems to be the hot side which leads me to believe that there might be an issue with the water heater. I think it drops in the bathroom sink as well but not the kitchen sink. The water heater is at least 8 years old. The house was built in the 60's. HELP!

Hi Bill,
Shut the water off to the shower valve and open it up. Pull the cartridge and check the hot water inlet ports for crud that may be blocking them. Now, with the valve still open turn on the hot water and flush out the hot water supply. Your water heater needs to be flushed. For long life and fewer troubles you should keep your heater clear of mineral build-up by flushing on a regular schedule. Let me show you how. Attach a hose to the boiler drain at the bottom of the tank. With the pressure on, open the boiler drain and let it run until the water runs clear. You will see a spurt of red,(rust) followed by white grains,(lime or calcium carbonate). This shouldn't take more then a few minutes. Do this monthly to keep it clear.
